Religious education (Catechesis) is the process of communicating the beliefs, values and practices which help form Catholic Christians. It is the work of handing on, from one generation to the next, the faith that has come down to us from the apostles and the way of life to which faith calls us. The religious education office seeks to respond to the needs of those who seek to follow Jesus Christ in the tradition of the Catholic Church. This includes informing them by instructing them in the beliefs of the Catholic faith, and forming them by providing experiences that will help them as followers of Jesus Christ.
The goals of Catechesis in Pre-K through Grade Eight are:
- To foster an intimate and on-going relationship with God;
- To witness to the Church as a sign of union with God and the Christian Community;
- Impart to students what a Catholic believes and how a Catholic ought to live;
- To involve students in the life of the parish, that is, in worship, service, and community;
- To assist parents in imparting the Catholic faith to their children as a living and life-giving faith;
- To encourage parents to continue their own religious development.
